Easy, treat others in the manner that you would like to be treated like. If you want to be treated with mercy, show mercy to others. Yada yada yada.
You make a point but I think that's the church's answer. The church is like Nike, just do it. I used to get this from my wife all of the time. She has been involved in the church longer than I have. When I would relay my struggles to her, she would tell me, "Well, just stop doing it" or "then don't think like that".
I don't think that is a fair way to go about treating other people. You have to deal with the underlying motivation and the thought process.
So, I guess I don't have trouble being nice to people, I can fake it just like everyone else. However, I do have a hard time being nice to people and doing it with a pure heart, sincere motivation, and clear conscience.
How do you think the "rule" informs this position?
Prayer helps my friend. Ask God for strength. Beleive me this is not religion it works.
